Počátkem 20. století se stala Praha významným centrem moderní fotografie. Rozvíjející se společenský život vytvořil vhodné prostředí mimo jiné pro fotografické salóny. V roce 1910 si svůj ateliér otevřel i Jan Posselt: sídlil na Smíchově, který byl tehdy ještě předměstím Prahy.
